A calm sequence for the jack, wheel nuts and the spare when a puncture interrupts the day.
The first decision is not about the wheel brace. It is about where to stop. Find firm, level ground away from moving traffic where the car can be made visible and the handbrake can hold it securely.
Before lifting the car, loosen the wheel nuts with the vehicle on the ground. Place the jack only at the manufacturer’s designated jacking point, lift until the tyre clears the surface, then remove the wheel in a deliberate order.
Fit the spare, hand-tighten the nuts, lower the vehicle, and tighten in a star pattern. A spare is a bridge to a repair or replacement, not a licence to carry on at normal speed for the rest of the month.
Once the wheel is dealt with, check the punctured tyre and the boot kit before the memory fades. Replacing a missing locking-wheel-nut key is much easier on your driveway than at the roadside.
